Option 1 - this seal
E3 windscreen seal, US version
51 31 1 823 080

Illustrations. The new seal takes its profile from an original seal.
51 31 1 823 080 is the windscreen (windshield) seal of the US-spec BMW E3 Bavaria, from 1972 to the end of production in 1974. It replaced 51 31 1 814 613, so it also fits earlier US cars that used that seal. BMW no longer makes it, and new old stock is almost impossible to find. We are making a new production run of this closed-frame seal in black EPDM rubber, reproduced from an original with the same profile: a channel for the glass, one for the body flange and a groove for the trim strip. Preorder it on its own or together with the rear window seal; if the run does not go ahead, you get a full refund.

From 1973 the 3-litre and larger E3 saloons got a wider window trim and different seals. They are not part of this run, but if enough owners ask for them we will plan another one. Register your interest - it is free and non-binding. Seals: 51 31 1 828 235, 51 31 1 828 234.
The US-spec E3 Bavaria from 1972 to 1974. It replaced 51 31 1 814 613, so it also fits earlier US cars that used that seal. The US 3.0 S and 3.0 Si with the wider window trim use 51 31 1 828 235, and European cars use a different windscreen seal. Not sure? Email us your chassis number or a photo of your old seal before you order.

A rubber seal needs its own tooling: an extrusion die for the profile and moulds for the corners. That cost only makes sense when it is shared across a batch.
No, only the rubber seal. Your original aluminium trim strips refit into the new seal.
We recommend an experienced auto glass fitter. The seal holds the glass in the body opening, so correct fitting matters.
